STANDARD 8

Students engage in self-directed STEAM learning guided by educators who are effective facilitators of learning.

Impact Narrative:

As facilitators of learning, Centennial’s educators recognize that learning must be both engaging and meaningful to their scholars. Guided by the Georgia Standards of Excellence, our units of study also recognize that the standards serve as a starting point for scholar-led inquiry and investigations. PBL and STEAM challenge scholars to consistently engage in self-directed learning.

As STEAM educators, we know the thirst and excitement for learning starts with a driving question. By frequently revisiting scholar-generated questions, teachers capture scholar “need-to-knows” about the driving question, sustain inquiry throughout the project, and form deeper understandings of interdisciplinary content.

At Centennial Academy, we want our scholars to always be inquirers and change agents of their communities. The Design Thinking Process helps guide our scholars through the problem-solving and learning process, allowing our teachers to become guides and learners themselves. Teachers further challenge scholars to think beyond their first solution and take time to stop and give feedback to others.
