School/program engages diverse STEAM community in order to support and sustain STEAM programs and initiatives.
Impact Narrative:
In the creation and collaborative planning process necessary for project-based inquiry, we look to intentionally engage a diverse STEAM community by creating partnership and learning opportunities for our scholars. Using the Georgia Standards of Excellence as our foundation, we create project-based inquiries that provide our scholars with as much exposure to STEAM careers and global issues. As we review and reflect on our PBLs, teachers and support members brainstorm possible community engagement opportunities and reach out to potential school partners and community stakeholders. Providing innovative partnerships to the Centennial community has been one of the greatest strengths of our STEAM initiative. We have over 60 community partners that include university, corporate, and non-profit organizations that provide tangible and hands-on learning experiences that support and enhance our scholar outcomes related to STEAM education.
Through our partnership with Georgia Natural Gas, our scholars experience the arts by attending Alliance Theatre productions along with interactive, in-school field trips with the Fox in the Box program at the Fox Theatre. Every year, CA scholars appear on 11 Alive’s daily lifestyle show, Atlanta and Company. During their tv appearance, scholars promote the Atlanta Science Festival Expo.
Our Accelerated Pathway Scholars in grades 2-7th participate in the Lumen/Beast Academy Program. The program encourages thinking beyond facts and formulas by tackling tough math challenges, Lumen scholars cultivate the logic, critical thinking, and growth mindset that prepare them to overcome obstacles for the rest of their lives.
