School/program has established a shared vision for STEAM and has leadership structures
to support effective implementation.
Impact Narrative:
In the 2018-2019 school year, Centennial Academy staff and stakeholders updated the school’s mission and vision statements. This process involved our scholars, board members and parents. In order to create a new mission, we compiled key terms unique to Centennial’s STEAM instruction, core values, and initiatives before finalizing and sharing with the greater community in the spring of 2019. The mission statement emphasizes the vision and values of the school, encompasses our shared mission for STEAM, and promotes a core value of excellence needed to create a learning environment to challenge and prepare our scholars for the future.
Centennial Academy Mission Statement:
To provide educational equity through a rigorous STEAM curriculum to all of its scholars.
In 2019, our STEAM Leadership Team, including the STEAM Specialist, teachers, and Georgia Tech Innovators in Residence, was established. STEAM Team Members meet to discuss STEAM goals, initiatives, and STEAM-focused learning, and work to create a stronger support structure for effective implementation. In time, the STEAM Leadership Team grew to include parents and scholars, which improved our overall goals and intended outcomes for STEAM initiatives.
Additionally, parental understanding and involvement is crucial for the success of our STEAM initiatives. During our Parent University sessions conducted by our Family Liaison, our parents have opportunities to learn about STEAM initiatives and scholar projects at various times throughout the school year. Centennial’s PTA also supports our STEAM initiatives by ongoing funding for PBL materials, a 3D printer and updated science lab equipment.
Centennial Academy’s goals and priorities espouse a core value of excellence and STEAM. The Centennial Academy Board, comprised of educators, parents and community members, places great emphasis on the importance of STEAM through strategic initiatives and school priorities alike.
