STANDARD 5
Leaders ensure that all stakeholders have ongoing opportunities to access information and learn about STEAM implementation.
Impact Narrative:
All stakeholders have ongoing opportunities to access our STEAM implementation information through the “CA Communications” weekly newsletter, school website, and social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. In addition to having its own page on the website and featured section in the weekly newsletter, our Communications Strategist features STEAM stories and pictures every week.
Through partnerships with Georgia Tech, The Georgia Natural Gas Company, and The Ascent Project, we offer our community opportunities to engage in STEAM activities during and beyond the school day. In addition to partner-sponsored events, parents and caregivers are invited to attend the iCurate PBL Showcase, featuring STEAM work at the end of Project-Based Learning units. Additionally, weekly Parent University sessions encourage families to learn about STEAM implementation and learning, further providing parents with the opportunity to share their ideas and provide constructive feedback. We are grateful for partner experiences and work closely with parents to share these amazing STEAM scholar opportunities with our families.
In 20-21, a selection of 8th-grade female scholars from Centennial became members of the first cohort of Black Girls Dive, in partnership with The Georgia Aquarium. As members of Black Girls Dive Foundation, our "Legends" will participate in the STREAMS program. Their involvement in the cohort will span four years and will extend beyond 8th grade into high school. The STREAMS program is designed to introduce girls between the ages of 9 and 17 to a multitude of activities that integrate Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, with SCUBA and develop youth leadership skills in conservation. Program participants will build underwater remote operate vehicles with video recording capabilities to study the biodiversity of ecosystems, such as reef behavior. Each semester, scholars will complete a capstone experience where they will have an opportunity to utilize the knowledge, skills, and abilities, and display appropriate dispositions consistent with stewards of the ocean. This spring scholars will travel abroad to the Red Sea in Egypt.
